Creating Value with Responsibility
At Afinum, people make the difference. In an atmosphere of mutual trust, you will have a lot of freedom from day one and encounter little of the “we’ve always done it this way” mindset. Independence is expected rather than a “back-office” role, shaping your daily routine from the start. This allows both you and the team as a whole to continuously evolve and grow.
What We Stand For
Entrepreneurial
We see ourselves as entrepreneurs who identify and seize opportunities—even those that others might not immediately recognise. We meet founders on equal terms and seek genuine, albeit time-limited, partnerships. For us, the best decision is what counts, regardless of who made it. We prefer to make decisions quickly and pragmatically.
Empathic
The personal factor is key to our success, whether it’s convincing entrepreneurs to partner with us or collaborating within the team. We live by the “Team First” approach, sharing our knowledge to achieve the best possible results together. When challenges arise, we roll up our sleeves and work together, celebrating our shared successes all the more.
Consciously Engaged
Sustainable commitment means creating lasting value for us. With every decision, we consider the long-term impact on the environment and people. We are aware that there is still much to be done. We want to live sustainability actively and integrate it more and more into our actions every day: at the portfolio, fund, and management levels.

Responsibility from Day One
You might be wondering what your start at Afinum will look like. It’s important to us to provide you with the best onboarding experience, and that begins even before your first day. Once we’ve made our decision, we’ll stay in touch until you begin and assign you a mentor as a point of contact for any questions you may have. We’ll handle any last administrative details and invite you to our team events, such as lunch or an after-work drink. And then, it’s quickly off to the races: from day one, you’ll be involved directly in processes and decisions, always with the goal of helping you grow personally and advancing Afinum as an organisation.

The Complete Process
After the First Closing
No later than after the first closing, and often even earlier, you will be co-responsible for value creation in one or more portfolio companies.
Good to know
What Does the Mutual Introduction Process Look Like?
Finding the right members for our team is extremely important to us. That’s why we want to get to know you as thoroughly as possible through a multi-stage process and provide you with as many insights as we can. Our mutual introduction process consists of six steps:
- Your documents will be reviewed by us, and you will receive feedback.
- In four interview rounds (via MS Teams), you will meet our Human Capital Manager Marit and various professionals from the team, who will also ask you some initial technical questions and answer any questions you may have.
- In your case study at our Munich office, you will present your findings on a real case to a group of 4 to 5 professionals.
- To help you assess if you are a good fit for our team and feel comfortable, you will meet additional team members.
- Based on your previous experiences and positions, you will provide us with 2 to 3 references.
- After the successful mutual introduction process, we will only need to discuss the details of the contract with you.
How Does the Onboarding at Afinum Look?
From the moment we decide to move forward together, we will stay in touch until your start date, including addressing any last administrative details. At the same time, you’ll be assigned a mentor, and we look forward to welcoming you at our team events.
When you start, you will go through a structured onboarding process, during which you’ll gain an overview of our approaches from various team members. From day one, you will be involved in small teams throughout the entire deal process. By the time of the first signing/closing, you will also be co-responsible for value creation in one or more portfolio companies.
What Development Opportunities Do I Have at Afinum?
We have the classic roles, starting from Analyst to Associate, Manager, Director, and all the way to Partner level. In line with our philosophy, we only bring new team members on board at the Analyst and Associate levels. It’s very important to us that we bring new employees into the Afinum team as early as possible and provide them with the best possible opportunities for development after they join. That’s why we don’t recruit at Director or Partner level externally, but prefer to fill these positions from within the team. With Burkhard, Kai, and Torsten, we have great examples that show how one can truly develop into a Partner at Afinum.
What Opportunities Do I Have for Further Education?
We believe in “on-the-job” training, and everyone is happy to share their knowledge and experience. Additionally, each new team member is assigned a dedicated mentor, and we place great importance on being involved in all workflows and topics from day one. Alongside this, we offer internal training through our Afinum Academy and, where necessary and useful, external training and courses. As a small team, however, we cannot provide training from scratch, so if you want to join us, you should have at least one year of foundational experience at a leading strategy consultancy, in investment banking, or with a reputable M&A boutique.
Who Can Apply?
Basically, anyone with at least one year of foundational experience at a leading strategy consultancy, in investment banking, or with a reputable M&A boutique can apply. Since a large part of the work with us is very analytical, we look for good grades and a strong academic background overall. Equally important, however, is that you fit into the team and can thrive in our medium-sized business environment, meaning you should have high social and communication skills, a grounded attitude, natural confidence, and a strong results orientation. If you also have a good business sense, can quickly and thoroughly form your own opinion and communicate it, then the key requirements are met.
What is the division between the offices in Munich and Zurich?
Both locations have fully-fledged teams, and the managing partners are present at both sites. We work cross-location on deals and projects, have weekly alignment meetings, celebrate together, and overall see ourselves as one team!
