I agreeIn 2014, AFINUM Siebte Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (“Afinum”) invested in Cotta Collection AG (“Cotta”) in Liechtenstein, a manufacturer of upholstered furniture in the low to medium price segment with two plants in Poland and one plant in Romania.
Over the holding period, Cotta massively expanded its market position and is now the European market leader with a comprehensive product range from sofas to armchairs and box-spring beds to case furniture. Today, the group produces in 14 plants in Poland, Romania, Hungary and Bosnia Herzegovina with over 5,000 people.
Afinum led the acquisition of Sinkro, a Bosnian producer of box-spring beds in Sarajevo in 2018, as well as the acquisition of Steinpol from the listed Steinhoff Group in 2019, a leading upholstered furniture and armchair manufacturer in Europe with nine plants in Poland and Hungary and a focus on the mid- and high-end price segments. In addition, Cotta expanded its product range on the one hand into the entry-level price segment for sofas in a new plant in Romania as well as on the other hand into case furniture for the living room and bedroom as trading goods. These measures enabled the Group to more than double its revenues during Afinum’s holding period while maintaining the high level of profitability.
Today, the Group is very well positioned and broadly diversified across its product range and many geographic end markets to further expand its market position in the future and generate above-average growth with solid profitability. The management team will stay on board after the transaction.
The transaction is the fifth successful exit of AFINUM Siebte Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG.
